Jerry immigrated in 1854 to Malden, IL and to Aurora, IL in 1885. He retired from the Burlington Railroad in 1903. After retirement he was a daily visitor at the Burlington rail yards, city hall and the courts, taking a keen interest in all.

Veteran Employee of Burlington Railroad Passes Away
After a Lingering Illness
Jeremiah O'Connor 96, known to hundreds of residents of Aurora as (Uncle Jerry), and one of the oldest residents of this city, died at the home of his son, J.L. O'Connor, 171 New York St, Sunday morning at 1 o'clock of general debility. It was his desire to live to be 100 years old, but his health started failing him about a year ago.
The deceased would have been 97 years of age, had he lived until July 14. He was born July 14, 1826, in Ireland and came to America in 1854 locating at Malden, IL, where he worked for the Burlington. In 1885 he came to Aurora to work for the same company and has made his hoe here ever since. About ten years ago he retired from work on pension. His wife died many years ago.
Up to the time of his illness, Uncle Jerry took a great interest in the Burlington railroad track elevation work and a day seldom passed but what he visited the improvement. Until his health failed him he was a daily visitor at the city hall, taking a keen interest in the city court and police court proceedings. He is survived by three sons, John of Chicago, and Jeremiah and Thomas of Aurora, three grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
The funeral will be held from the home of his son, 171 New York St, Tuesday Morning at 9 o'clock and at 9:30 o'clock from St Mary's church. The Rev. Fr.J.P. McGuire, will officiate. Burial will be in Mr. Olivet cemetery. Friends are asked to please omit flowers.
Jeremiah married Mary in 1856. (Mary was born in Feb 1837 in Ireland and died before 1910 in Aurora, Kane, IL, USA.)
