bullet  General Notes:

Lived in Dimmick Township and Waltham Township
- La Salle County, IL near Utica.

Thomas and Margaret first owned the East Half of the Southwest Quarter of Section 16, Township 34 North Range 1 East of the 3rd Principal Meridian in Dimmick Township. Thomas had owned 75 acres in Dimmick Township. That farm is owned by Lyle Dedrick and is west of the Dimmick School and over the tracks...

Margaret spoke only Gaelic was extremely stubborn and refused to learn English. She also smoked a clay pipe. Jeremiah was their only living child. Margaretís brother, John Fitzgerald and his wife Catherine (Kate) Fenton died leaving their children orphans. Margaret and Thomas took in one of the sons, (John) Jack Fitzgerald who had been born in 1872. The 1880 Census shows Thomas O'Connor age 56, Margaret 55, Jerry 20, all unable to read or write English, and Jack Fitzgerald at school adopted 8 years old.

Thomas was remembered by his granddaughters as cross. Thomas had a blue trunk in his bedroom, which he brought from Ireland. Years later his granddaughter Angela realized that the truck was special, valuable and rare. Thomas kept a bottle of whiskey in the trunk, each morning and each evening he would have a shot. He very seldom drank otherwise. When Thomas would go to town, which wasn't often, he bought bananas and candy for the family. His granddaughters said that Jeremiah (Jerry) didn't get along with his parents but the relationship with his father improved after his mother died. Angela remembers playing a card game with Thomas called 45.
