bullet  General Notes:

Michael Leo, Thomas and Ellen's seventh child, was born on 14 June 1866, but for some reason he was not baptized until 27 May 1878. His brother, Thomas, and Mary Ann Lennon were his godparents. Michael, who was called Black Mike because of his big black moustache, was married 15 Oct 1900 to Isabella Steffler in the Church of Our Lady. Their attendants were Joseph Lynch and Annie Steffler. Isabella, who was born 12 May 1878, was the daughter of Henry Steffler and Margaret Dittner who lived on a neighbouring farm.

After their marriage, Michael and Bella lived on the Gale farm where their first three children were born. After his father Thomas' death, Michael bought the farm - Lots 7 and 8 North Half Concession 4 - where his mother, Ellen, and his brother, Joseph, were living.

Michael did not move his family there but moved to the Boyle farm - Lots 15 and 16 Concession 5 - where their next four children were born. On 23 May 1914 Michael bought Lot 11 South Half Concession 4 from his sister, Catherine Lynch Brickell, for $4600. Their last three children were born there.

Michael and Bella named their ten children Joseph Michael, Annie Helen, Elizabeth Margaret, George Joseph, Catherine Elizabeth, Thomas Henry, Francis William, Francis James, Sarah Gertrude and Margaret Irene.

Michael Leo caught a nasty cold which he could not shake but he had to go to Guelph on a cold rainy day. His condition worsened quickly and he died the next morning, 6 Aug 1924 at the age of 58, of double pneumonia. He was buried on the 9th in St. Joseph's Cemetery, Guelph and his pallbearers were Michael P. Lynch, Joseph Brickell, Richard O'Donohue, Michael Spruhan, Henry Snyder and Thomas Doyle. When the hearse was half way up the hill to the Church of Our Lady, it caught fire and Michael's coffin had to be removed quickly. His widow, Bella, survived him twenty seven years dying on 5 Mar 1951 and she was buried in Marymount Cemetery, Guelph. Her pallbearers were Frank Byrne, Fred Broeckel, Pat Phelan, J. Steffler, Howard McGarr and Frank Steffler.

bullet  Marriage Notes:

Michael married Isabella Steffler, daughter of Henry Steffler and Margaret Dittner, on 15 Oct 1900 in The Church of Our Lady, Guelph. (Isabella Steffler was born on 12 May 1878, died on 5 Mar 1951 and was buried in Marymount Cemetery, Guelph.)
